Step 6 — Reading through a Chinese Contract
If a school or organization in China is interested in you, they will most likely start by sending you a contract to look over. This contract should contain all of the details relating to salary, hours, and benefits package. Click here for a sample contract.
Again, it is important to make sure that you know exactly what you are going to receive if you accept the contract position. Job benefits and salary vary greatly across China but in general you can expect the following:
a). 3-5 times the average local salary in the city
b). One way airfare reimbursed for a sixth month contract and roundtrip reimbursed for a one year contract.
c). Working Visa
d). Free Apartment (fridge, microwave, washing machine, TV, etc) with utilities paid by you (sometimes the school will pay for gas).
e). Free meals at the school (if applicable)
f). 13-20 hours a week in the classroom
g). Travel allowance during winter break of around 2000 RMB
Please don’t compare this list with every offer you receive. In some cases you may receive a much higher salary but you will have to find your own accomodation. As I stated earlier, there are many variations.
Make sure that you understand every section of the contract. If you have any questions or have any thing that you would like to change now is the time to ask.
